Claus's family is one of an old pure blood line, and their name is well known throughout the wizarding world, particularly for their dark nature and the fact that his now dead father used to be the German Head of The Department of Magical Games and Sports (who traveled far and wide for events, often bringing Claus). It is also a wide-spread rumor that while he was a student at Durmstrang Claus cut off two of a boy's fingers for getting on his bad side. Like many pure bloods, he is proud, vain and has an extreme dislike for muggles, mud-bloods and muggle-borns.
